How can I request a copy of a fine?

How you request a copy of a fine will depend on how the fine has been processed.

**Fines issued directly to you/your company**

If a fine has been issued directly to you/your company, we will not be able to provide a copy. Please contact the relevant issuing authority to request a copy directly from them.

**Redirected fines (described as represented)**

Once we have provided the issuing authority with your/your company’s details, they will contact you/your company directly with details of the fine. In this circumstance, you/your company will be able to liaise directly with the issuing authority to request a copy of the fine. However, you will need a third party letter from ALD to provide to the issuing authority. The third party letter gives our
 permission, as the registered keeper, for the issuing authority to speak directly to you/your company.

**Fines paid by ALD and recharged to you/your company**

When a fine is paid by ALD and recharged to you/your company, we will send a copy of the fine to you/your company by email. We will also raise an invoice for the fine amount, plus any admin fees, and send this alongside the copy of the fine. Personal customers (excluding sole traders) will need to arrange to pay this manually by the date on the invoice. For all other business customers (including sole traders) the payment will be taken automatically on their next Direct Debit date.

How do I contest a fine?

What you need to do to contest a fine issued to you/your company will depend on how the fine has been processed.

**Fines issued directly to you/your company**

If you/your company are the registered keeper of your vehicle, all fines will be issued directly to you/your company. You/your company will be able to liaise directly with the issuing authority to contest the fine.

If you would like to contest a fine that has already been paid by ALD and recharged to you/your company, you will need a third party letter from ALD to provide to the issuing authority. Please be aware that a third party letter does not guarantee that the issuing authority will accept your/your company’s appeal.

If you/your company successfully contest a fine which has been paid by ALD and recharged to you/your company, please contact us at maintenance.admin@aldautomotive.com or call us on 03700 011 181 to advise us. You will need to include your vehicle registration number and account reference number in your email or have these details to hand when you call. Please also provide the details of the relevant fine, for example the date the fine was issued, the amount and the fine reference number.

We will then contact the issuing authority to obtain a refund. Once the issuing authority has refunded us, we will credit your account/issue a refund accordingly, including any administration fees that have been charged.

QR code parking scam

We have been made aware of a new scam affecting drivers in the UK called ‘quishing’.

There has been a big increase in false QR codes being put on parking machines. The false codes are leading people to enter their card details into fraudulent websites. These are set up to steal payment information, which criminals then use to spend money from their bank accounts.

This can then lead to a parking fine, as the driver has not actually paid for parking.

To minimise the risk, we advise that you avoid paying through a QR code wherever possible, and pay with cash, card or via an official app downloaded from a smartphone app store.

What do I need to do if I was not the driver of the vehicle at the time the fine was issued?

If you were not the driver of the vehicle at the time a fine was issued, what you will need to do will depend on how the fine has been processed.

**Fines issued directly to you/your company**

If you/your company are the registered keeper of your vehicle, all fines will be issued directly to you/your company. You/your company will be able to liaise directly with the issuing authority to provide them with the correct driver details.

**Redirected fines (described as represented)**

Once we have provided the issuing authority with your/your company’s details, they will contact you/your company directly with details of the fine. In this circumstance you/your company will be able to liaise directly with the issuing authority to provide them with the correct driver details.

**Fines paid by ALD and recharged to you/your company**

If ALD have paid and recharged you/your company for a fine that was issued when the vehicle was not in your possession, please contact us at maintenance.admin@aldautomotive.com or call us on 03700 011 181. You will need to include your vehicle registration number and account reference number in your email or have these details to hand when you call. Once we receive your email we will investigate and, where applicable, we will credit your account/issue a refund accordingly, including any administration fees that have been charged.

What do I need to do if my vehicle is impounded by the police?

If your/your company vehicle has been impounded by the police, it is important that you let us know as soon as possible.

Please contact us on 03700 011 181 and we will be happy to assist you. You will need to have either your account reference number or vehicle registration number to hand.

If we are the registered keeper of your vehicle, we will need to issue you with a Letter of Authority for the police/garage compound to let you collect the vehicle. Please contact us if you need us to give you a Letter of Authority.

There are three common reasons for a vehicle being impounded:

**Section 165**

A vehicle can be impounded if it has been removed from a driver who did not have valid insurance and/or a valid driving licence. This is referred to as a Section 165 Seizure, as it comes from section 165 of the Road Traffic Act 1988.

If your/your company vehicle has been seized under Section 165, you will be required to present your documents at a police station before your/your company vehicle will be released. The documents that you will need will be detailed on the seizure notice issued by the police.

You will also need to send a copy of the insurance certificate into ALD at customerrelations@aldautomotive.com so that we can check the details are correct according to the terms of your/your company’s contract. The policy must be for fully comprehensive cover. The policy must be in the name and address of whoever holds the contract with ALD, whether that be an individual, sole tradership, partnership or a company.

**Road Traffic Collision (RTC)**

A vehicle may be impounded after being removed from the scene of an RTC. This is likely to happen if the vehicle has been damaged and is causing an obstruction or danger. The police will instruct their local contractor to remove the vehicle from the road and take it to a secure location.

If your/your company vehicle has been impounded following an RTC, you will need to make arrangements with your insurer for them to collect the vehicle. Your insurer will organise an assessment to establish if any repairs are required or if the vehicle is a write off.

**Recovered Stolen Vehicle**

A recovered stolen vehicle is generally taken to a police compound (vehicle storage site). Under this circumstance you should liaise with your insurance company regarding the release of the vehicle.
 If your insurance company has completed the total loss/write off process with ALD Automotive and paid us the amount of the settlement quotation at the point the vehicle is recovered, they will legally own the vehicle and can arrange collection.

If the total loss/write off process for your/your company’s vehicle has not been completed before your/your company vehicle is recovered, your insurance company will normally arrange for the locks to be changed, do a safety check and settle any fees. Once this has been completed your/your company vehicle should be returned to you.

Question 6

What happens if I receive a fine or a penalty notice?

Depending on the fine or penalty notice, they will either be issued directly to you/your company, redirected (described as represented) to you/your company or paid by us and invoiced to you/your company.

It is not possible for some fines, such as Congestion Charges and International fines to be represented. They will be paid by us and invoiced to you/your company. If you would like to appeal the fine, you will need to do this with the fine authority directly, however you will need a third-party letter from ALD to provide to the issuing authority. Y
